Harley Quinn returns as Margot Robbie shares Birds of Prey behind-the-scenes photo

January 28, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Coming hot on the heels of the news that Aquaman has toppled The Dark Knight Rises to become the highest-grossing DC movie of all time, it looks like Warner Bros. has now kicked off production on the first DCEU instalment of 2020, with Margot Robbie taking to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo of her in full costume and make-up as Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Oh, and it looks like we can safely dismiss that report from Revenge of the Fans claiming that Harley will be ditching her Suicide Squad tattoos for the new film…

While we’re yet to get an official synopsis for Birds of Prey, the film will see Harley moving on from her abusive relationship with The Joker as she teams with The Huntress, Black Canary and Detective Renee Montoya to help protect young Cassandra Cain from the mob boss Black Mask.

Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is directing Birds of Prey from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) with Margot Robbie reprising her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) as The Huntress, Jurnee Smolett-Bell (Underground) as Black Canary, Rosie Perez (Fearless) as Renee Montoya, Elle Jay Basco (Grey’s Anatomy) as Cassandra Cain, Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin) as Black Mask, Chris Messina (Sharp Objects) as Victor Zsasz, Ali Wong (Black Box), Robert Catrini (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back), Steven Williams (The Chi), Dana Lee (Dr. Ken), Francois Chau (The Expanse, The Tick) and Matthew Willig (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs). It is set for release on February 7th 2020.
