USA Network gives series order to Briarpatch starring Rosario Dawson

January 25, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Back in July of last year it was announced that Rosario Dawson had signed on to Briarpatch, a new TV pilot from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, and now it has been announced that USA Network has ordered the project to series.

Briarpatch has been written by Andy Greenwald, who will executive produce alongside Esmail and Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) the latter of whom directed the pilot.

Based on a novel by Ross Thomas, Briarpatch will see Dawson playing Allegra ‘Pick’ Dill, “a tenacious and highly skilled investigator working in Washington, D.C., for a young, ambitious senator. When her 10-years-younger sister, a homicide detective, is killed by a car bomb, Allegra returns to her corrupt Texas hometown. What begins as a search for the murderer becomes a fraught and dangerous excavation of the past Allegra has long sought to bury.”

“When we were first introduced to the anthology by Andy Greenwald, UCP and Paramount Television, we were immediately struck by the show’s unique tone and captivating story,” said Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “And Sam Esmail’s incomparable vision and style, coupled with Rosario Dawson’s tremendous performance as Allegra Dill, will no doubt leave audiences buzzing.”

Briarpatch is set to shoot in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with Dawson starring alongside Jay R. Ferguson, Brian Geraghty, and Edi Gathegi.
