February 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

AMC has announced that it has cancelled its martial arts series Into the Badlands and western drama The Son, with the shows set to come to an end at the conclusion of their third and second seasons respectively.

Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville), Into the Badlands takes place in a post-apocalyptic feudal society and features an ensemble cast that includes Daniel Wu, Nick Frost, Aramis Knight, Emily Beecham, Orla Brady, Ally Ioannides, Lorraine Toussaint, Sherman Augustus, Babou Ceesay, Ella-Rae Smith, and Lewis Tan.

Into the Badlands will return to AMC on March 24th for its season three midseason premiere before moving to its regular timeslot from March 25th for the remaining seven episodes of the series.

The Son meanwhile stars Pierce Brosnan as Eli McCullough, a cattle baron entering the burgeoning oil industry, and also features a cast that includes Henry Garrett, Jacob Lofland, Lois Smith, Paola Núñez, Zahn McClarnon, Jess Weixler, David Wilson Barnes, Sydney Lucas, James Parks, Elizabeth Frances, Shane Graham, and Kathryn Prescott.

The second season of The Son will premiere on AMC on April 27th, and will once again run for 10 episodes.
