Jigsaw actor Ben Barnes comments on The Punisher’s cancellation

February 20, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Ben Barnes, who starred as Jigsaw in seasons one and two of The Punisher, has commented on the show’s cancellation.

We now know that Netflix’s The Punisher will not continue past 2019’s second season, joining Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist on the chopping block. Whether we will see these characters again on the big or small screen remains to be seen but for now, this seems to be it.

Ben Barnes, who portrayed Billy Russo/Jigsaw in the show, probably wouldn’t be returning to the series anyway given the fate of his character, but the actor took to Instagram to express his gratitude and sadness:

“Well… that’s the end of the road for @marvel @thepunisher on @netflixThank you to everyone who tuned in for an episode or binged each season in 13 hours & for all your wonderful, supportive, funny, creative comments – I can’t read them all but I see you & appreciate every one! Loved working with this cast & crew – I miss you & gutted I don’t get to see what you had in store for a third Season! ?? #thepunisher.”

Fans of The Punisher will just have to hope that Marvel decides to bring the character back in some capacity, perhaps on Disney+ once contract disputes have been overcome.

Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as The Punisher.

The second season of The Punisher is streaming now on Netflix and sees Jon Bernthal returning as Frank Castle alongside Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim, Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont, Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix, Annette O’Toole as Eliza Schultz, and Corbin Bernsen as Anderson Schultz.
