Aquaman spinoff The Trench could come before Aquaman 2 says producer

March 6, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Peter Safran, one of the producers for DC’s Aquaman, says that spinoff The Trench could come out before Aquaman 2.

There is no question that Aquaman was a rip-roaring success, pleasing audiences around the world and making bucket loads of cash in the process. WB was so pleased with the film, they are even going to make a spinoff movie called The Trench, which could actually come out before Aquaman 2.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aquaman producer Peter Safran spoke about The Trench and what it means to DC: “We always, even from the early concept art days, loved the idea of a Trench movie. Then, when audiences embraced it in the movie itself the way they did, particularly that ant farm shot where the camera follows the Trench [creatures] following Arthur and Mera down into the deep, we just knew that we had something very special there and we knew what that movie should be. And consequently, I suspect that that’s one that will come out significantly before Aquaman 2.

“We’ve definitely taken a page from our Conjuring playbook, which is: you’ve got the mothership, which is Aquaman. But there are so many great stories to tell within that universe of itself, that Atlantean universe.”

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be … a king.”

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry, Julie Andrews as Karathen and Graham McTavish as King Atlan.
