X-Men: Dark Phoenix director wants Iron Man and the X-Men to appear in the MCU together

March 27, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Simon Kinberg, the director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, has revealed which MCU superheroes he would like to see on screen with the X-Men.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix could very well be the last X-Men movie not made by Marvel Studios, as Disney have now completed the purchase of 20th Century Fox, including the X-Men characters. This, of course, allows the X-Men and Deadpool to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Simon Kinberg, long time X-Men producer and director of Dark Phoenix, has revealed which MCU characters he would like to see share the screen with the X-Men in a recent interview with Variety:

“I’m a fan of so many of those MCU characters. I guess I would say probably either somebody from Wakanda or Iron Man. I mean, I love [Robert Downey Jr.]. I’ve worked with him. I love what he does with that character. I feel he created the tonal template for the MCU with the first Iron Man movie, and so the notion Iron Man popping up in X-Men or Iron Man interacting with Deadpool is pretty exciting.”

All of these options are now possible so it’s certainly exciting times for fans of these characters. Which characters are you most looking forward to seeing meet when the X-Men join the MCU?

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix sees Simon Kinberg directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Kota Eberhardt (The Persian Connection) as Selene, Andrew Stehlin (Hacksaw Ridge) as Red Lotus, and Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game) and Lamar Johnson (Kings). It is set for release on June 6th 2019.
