Jai Courtney returning as Captain Boomerang in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad

April 3, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Although producer Peter Safran has recently described the movie as “a total reboot”, it seems that isn’t quite the case as Jai Courtney has revealed to Business Insider that he’s set to reprise the role of Captain Boomerang for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time,” states Courtney. “There’s not much else I can reveal about it but yet, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure. I’m happy, it’s going to be fun. It will be different, for sure, but it’s going to be great.”

Gunn’s follow-up to 2016’s Suicide Squad is said to feature “mostly” new actors and characters, and we already know that Idris Elba is set to take over the role of Deadshot from Will Smith. However, it’s been rumoured that Margot Robbie will be returning as Harley Quinn, while there have also been unconfirmed reports that Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller will also be back.

An as-yet-unconfirmed rumour has suggested that Gunn’s Task Force X will introduce four new characters in Ratcatcher, Nanaue, Polka-Dot Man and Peacemaker, with Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista said to be under consideration for the latter.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6th 2021.
