Spidey meets Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home image

April 25, 2019 by Gary Collinson

With Avengers: Endgame now with us (and obliterating box office records), attention will soon be turning to the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Sony co-production Spider-Man: Far From Home, and thanks to Entertainment Weekly we’ve got a new still which sees Tom Holland’s webslinger shaking hands with his new ‘buddy’ Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.

“If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle,” states director Jon Watts with regards to the fan favourite comic book supervillain’s role in the movie, which – from what we’ve heard – will see the duo teaming up to take down three mysterious ‘Elementals’. But who could be behind them..?

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released on July 2nd and features the return of Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Michael Keaton (The Vulture), Zendaya (Michelle), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Angourie Rice (Betty Brant), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Martin Star (Mr. Harrington), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) as Mysterio and J.B. Smoove (Uncle Drew), Remy Hii (Crazy Rich Asians) and Numan Acar (Homeland) in undisclosed roles.
