Sonic the Hedgehog movie gets a first trailer and posters

May 1, 2019 by Ricky Church

Fans of SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog now have their first full look at the upcoming live-action/animated film. Paramount has released the first trailer for the video game adaptation, which stars House of Lies‘ Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Kidding‘s Jim Carrey as his archnemesis, Dr. Robotnik. Check out the trailer below along with a couple of posters…

Created in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog follows the titular speedy hedgehog who battles the evil Dr. Robotnik, sometimes also known as Eggman, and his horde of robots and animals for control of a mystical power source called Chaos Emeralds. Sonic is one of the longest running video game franchises with several cartoons and comics made from his adventures. Sonic has been so popular he has joined the ranks of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. games and made cameo appearances in the Wreck-It Ralph films and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog is directed by Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke) and features a cast that includes Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), James Marsden (Westworld), Jim Carrey (Kidding), Adam Pally (Happy Endings), Tika Sumpter (Ride Along), Neal McDonough (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon). It is set for release on November 8th 2019.
