Jason Bourne series Treadstone casts Michelle Forbes and more

June 19, 2019 by Ricky Church

USA Network’s Jason Bourne spin-off series Treadstone has added more to its growing cast. Per Deadline, joining the series is Michelle Forbes (The Killing), Patrick Fugit (First Man), Michael Gaston (The Leftovers), Tess Haubrich (Alien: Covenant) and Bollywood actress Shruti Haasan.

Forbes and the other newcomers join Brian J. Smith (Sense8), Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Omar Metwally (The Affair), Tracy Ifeachor (The Originals), Han Hyo-joo (The Beauty Inside), Gabriell Scharnitzky (The Game) and Emilia Schule (Berlin Station). Character descriptions for most of the cast can be found here.

Created by Tim Kring (Heroes), Treadstone “explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins.” It has a straight-to-series order, and is expected to premiere later this year.

Treadstone spins out of the Jason Bourne film series that has starred Matt Damon as the lead character in four of its five instalments. After suffering from mysterious bullet wounds, Jason Bourne wakes up with no memory of who he was before, but quickly discovers he is a highly skilled assassin who can speak several languages and is proficient using many weapons and vehicles. Over the course of the films, he delves deeper into his past and Treadstone, the top-secret CIA black-ops program he was once part of.

The TV series won’t be the first time the Bourne franchise has attempted a spin-off as Jeremy Renner starred as another assassin modelled after Bourne and the Treadstone program in The Bourne Legacy.
