IDW gets spooky with The Addams Family: The Bodies Issue

July 18, 2019 by Gary Collinson

In news coming out of the San Diego Comic-Con International, IDW Publishing has announced that it is set to tie into the release of the upcoming CG-animated The Addams Family movie with the whimsical one-shot comic The Addams Family: The Bodies Issue from writer Zoe Quinn (Goddess Mode) and artist Philip Murphy (Star Trek vs. Transformers).

“As a goth who fell in love with The Addams Family at a young age, it’s a dream come true to write for the iconic, loving family of oddballs,” says Quinn. “As a comics creator, I’ve really enjoyed being able to play with visual gags and write the most fun dialogue I’ve ever created, too.”

“The Addams Family is definitely one of those iconic pop culture families that so many people grew up with and love. From Charles Addams’ original New Yorker cartoons to the TV series, movies, and animated series, everybody has their favorites,” adds Murphy. “It’s definitely a dream project and I am sure that fans old and new will have a howling good time reading it!”

In The Bodies Issue, Wednesday Addams discovers a mysterious tome – one that promises true empowerment to the young woman who wields it. Wednesday decides to complete the dark rituals hidden within this Eleventeen magazine… and achieve ultimate power!

The Addams Family: The Bodies Issue will be released in October.

Get ready to snap your fingers! The Addams Family is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbor.

The Addams Family lives are turned upside down when they realize the town next door is suddenly full of uptight suburbanites led by an over-the-top TV host who is trying to build the perfect world- her way! – and who will stop at nothing to get rid of a freaky family like the Addams. If that’s not bad enough, Wednesday has to go to public school for the first time, and Pugsley has to prepare for a big performance that the extended Addams family from across the globe will be coming to judge. What could possibly go wrong?

The Addams Family features a voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Gomez, Charlize Theron (Atomic Blonde) as Morticia, Chloe Grace Moretz (The Miseducation of Cameron Post) as Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Pugsley, Nick Kroll (Big Mouth) as Uncle Fester, Bette Midler (Hocus Pocus) as Grandmama, Allison Janney (I, Tonya) as the Addams’ arch nemesis Margaux Needler and Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) as Parker Needler. It is set for release on October 11th in the U.S. and on October 25th in the U.K.
