Michael K. Williams, Melissa Leo, Frank Grillo and more join thriller Body Brokers

July 30, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Michael K. Williams (When They See Us), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Frank Grillo (Avengers: Endgame), Alice Englert (Them That Follow) and Jack Kilmer (The Nice Guys) have been cast in Body Brokers, a crime thriller from writer-director John Swab (Let Me Make You a Martyr, Run With the Hunted).

Body Brokers tells the true and untold story of the multibillion-dollar drug and alcohol treatment scheme where former drug addicts and dealers become millionaires as fly-by-night “body brokers”, recruiting other addicts to seek treatment and selling these patients off to facilities paying the highest price.

Utah (Kilmer) and his girlfriend Opal (Englert), are drug addicts living on the streets in rural Ohio. After getting recruited by body broker Wood (Williams), and offered treatment in Los Angeles, Wood takes Utah under his wing and introduces him to treatment center mogul Vin (Frank Grillo). Wood and Vin bring Utah in on their lucrative and illegal dealings, where saving lives comes second to the bottom line.

“This story is extremely personal to me,” director John Swab tells us. “It’s based on my experience within the treatment system as well as countless others who trusted me to tell their stories. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better cast to come together and help us shine a light on an unknown epidemic.”

Filming on Body Brokers will get underway in August.
