Storm Reid in talks for The Suicide Squad as Idris Elba’s daughter

July 11, 2019 by Ricky Church

Director James Gunn continues to assemble his cast for his DCEU film The Suicide Squad as TheWrap reports that Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time) has begun discussions to join the film. A deal has not yet been finalized, but Reid is said to be the top contender to play the daughter of Idris Elba’s (Luther) mystery character.

Despite the reports that The Suicide Squad would be a “total reboot”, the film will see Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney reprising their Suicide Squad roles as Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, Rick Flag and Captain Boomerang respectively. It was originally reported that Elba would take over the role of Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot, from Will Smith, but Gunn and the production team opted to instead give Elba a new character to play leaving Smith open to return for a future Suicide Squad film.

Along with the returning characters from the first film, The Suicide Squad will welcome a number of new villains into the DC Extended Universe. Aside from Elba, John Cena (Bumblebee) will play a as-yet-unrevealed character with David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) as Polka-Dot Man and Daniela Melchior (Valor da Vida) as Ratcatcher.

Reid can currently be seen in HBO’s Euphoria and will star opposite Elizabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) in The Invisible Man for Universal and Blumhouse next year.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6th, 2021.
