Gal Gadot confirmed for Hedy Lamarr limited series

August 3, 2019 by Gary Collinson

A year after she was first linked to the project, Deadline is reporting that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has officially closed her deal to portray Austrian-American actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr in a limited series set up at Showtime.

Written by Sarah Treem (The Affair), the series will chronicle Lamarr’s life and career, beginning in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s leading through to her success in Hollywood in films such as Algiers, Boom Town and Samson and Delilah. Along with her screen success Lamarr was an inventor who – along with composer George Antheil – developed a radio guidance system for torpedoes during World War II, with aspects of her work subsequently being incorporated into WiFi and Bluetooth technology.

“The life of Hedy Lamarr was a truly fascinating one,” said Showtime’s President of Entertainment Jana Winograde. “She stood at the forefront of many issues that challenge women and our society today. In Gal Gadot, we have found the transcendent actress to portray the deeply complex Lamarr. And with the award-winning talents of Sarah Treem and Warren Littlefield, this is going to be a special series.”

In addition to starring, Gadot will also serve as an executive producer on the series with her husband Jaron Varsano (My Dearest Fidel), Treem, Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Katie Robbins (The Last Tycoon).

Gadot will next be seen on the big screen reprising her role as Diana Prince in the DC sequel Wonder Woman 1984, and is also gearing up to shoot the action thriller Red Notice and Murder on the Orient Express sequel Death on the Nile.
