Todd Phillips wouldn’t say no to making a Joker sequel

August 21, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Todd Phillips, the director of Joker, has said that he won’t rule out making a sequel to the movie.

While DC fans are eagerly anticipating the Joaquin Phoenix led Joker solo movie, the film’s director is already being asked questions about a possible sequel. Would he ever do it? Well, he’s not ruling it out.

Speaking to Total Film Magazine (via ComicBook.com), Todd Phillips said that as long as the film’s star returns, he would be up for revisiting the world of Joker: “One thing I will tell you: I would do anything with Joaquin, any day of the week. There’s nobody like him. If he was willing to do it, and if people show up to this movie, and Warners came to us and said, ‘You know what? If you guys could think of something…’ Well, I have a feeling that he and I could think of something pretty cool.”

So, while a sequel is not a certainty by any means, the film’s director isn’t turning up his nose at the idea. His comments also say a lot about how highly he thinks of Phoenix’s performance, which is hopefully a good sign for when the movie arrives in cinemas.

Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.

Joker is set for release on October 4th 2019 and stars Joaquin Phoenix (The Sisters Brothers), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn), Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island), Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood) and Dante Pereira-Olson (You Were Never Really Here).
