Joker passes $850 million as incredible box office run continues

October 28, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Having topped Deadpool and its sequel to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time last week, Joker returned to the top of the box office this past weekend as it pushed its global total to a whopping $851 million.

The movie, which sees Joaquin Phoenix delivering an acclaimed turn as the iconic comic book villain, is now the fifth biggest DC film ever after Aquaman ($1.15 billion), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.08 billion), The Dark Knight ($1.00 billion) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($873.6 million).

By this point, Joker has defied all box office expectations and predictions, and looks on course to join the billion dollar club before its run is over.

Do you think Joker will top a billion dollars? Let us know in the comments below or reach out to us on social media @flickeringmyth…

Joker centres around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.

Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix (The Sisters Brothers), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn), Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island), Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood) and Dante Pereira-Olson (You Were Never Really Here).
