Latest update for World of Warships kicks off Halloween and introduces new nation

October 16, 2019 by Andrew Newton

Wargaming brings two lots of goodies to ship captains today as they release update 0.8.9 for World of Warships.  This latest update sees the launch of the brand-new Italian cruiser line into early access and kicks off the Halloween celebrations with the return of Saving Transylvania and Sunray in the Darkness Operations.

The Italian cruisers introduced in this update are the first researchable branch of the Italian Navy and include the following vessels – Raimondo Montecuccoli (Tier V), Trento (Tier VI), Zara (Tier VII) and Amalfi (Tier VIII).  These vessels have good maneuverability and from Tier VI upwards they boast powerful 203 mm guns.  This new nation brings with it two new game mechanics, these are Semi-armor-piercing (SAP) shells which combine some characteristics of both AP and HE shells and the Exhaust Smoke Generator consumable which can conceal a ship without having to reduce its speed.

The Italian Navy also comes with a new game event that gives players the opportunity to earn rewards, including containers and a temporary resource called Italian Tokens.  These tokens can be exchanged in the Armory for permanent and expendable camouflages, signals, credits and more.

This year’s Halloween event comes in two phases, taking place throughout Update 0.8.9 this first phase sees the return of the popular Saving Transylvania and Sunray in the Darkness Operations.  The second phase is the new game mode, Raid for the Filth!, this will take place between 30th  October 30 and 27th November.  In this new mode players will take command of magic-infused ships and take on other players and hordes of evil AI ships in order to gather a resource called Filth.  As with Italian Tokens, Filth can be exchanged for rewards in the armoury.

Update 0.8.9 for World of Warships is available now.
