Wesley Snipes is happy for Mahershala Ali and his casting as Blade

October 1, 2019 by Liam Waddington

After portraying Blade between 1998 and 2004 in a trilogy of movies, Wesley Snipes has discussed his thoughts on Mahershala Ali taking on the role in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe title.

Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Ali was revealed to be portraying the Daywalker in the further expansion of the MCU by Marvel Studio’s President Kevin Feige. Now, Snipes has weighed in on his thoughts on Ali becoming the next actor to portray the fan-favourite character in an interview with AP Entertainment.

“People are very, very sneaky. They try to make it about the actors,” Snipes said. “It’s not about me and him. I’m happy for him to be considered. I’m happy for them looking at him. Flattery… what do they say? Imitation is the best form of flattery. It’s something that he has acknowledged that he wanted to do and his family wanted him to do it, so I’m appreciative of him getting the love that I’ve created something that others want to carry on and make their own stamp on.”

There are currently no details on the reboot of Blade in the MCU including story, writer, producers or directors. However, Blade is expected to take place during Phase Five, meaning it’s unlikely we’ll see it until 2022 at the earliest.

What do you make of Ali taking on the role of Blade? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
