Marvel’s Loki series rumoured to feature a female Loki

November 19, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Over the weekend it was revealed that actress Sophia Di Martino (Yesterday, Flowers) has been cast in a mystery role alongside Tom Hiddleston in Marvel Studios’ Loki series for Disney+, and now a report is circulating which suggests that she may be playing a female version of the God of Mischief.

According to Deadline, a “source close to the production hints that Di Martino may in fact portray a female incarnation of Loki and, in effect share the role with Hiddleston.”

Loki has previously been portrayed as a female in Marvel’s comic book continuity on a number of occasions, and seeing as the show will follow the still-villainous alternate version of Loki from Avengers: Endgame, it certainly wouldn’t be a stretch to have the character using his shape-shifting ability to disguise himself as a female after using the Space Stone to escape justice for the events of The Avengers.

The Loki series has been developed by Michael Waldron (Rick and Morty), with Kate Herron (Daybreak) directing, and will “follow Loki as the trickster and shapeshifter pops up throughout human history as unlikely influencer on historical events.” It is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2021.
