Warner Bros. may develop Wonder Woman spin-off featuring Themyscira’s Amazons

December 9, 2019 by Ricky Church

As we watch the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer over and over again, word has come from the film’s CCXP panel that Warner Bros. may develop the Wonder Woman franchise beyond the famed Amazonian warrior by making a spin-off film revolving around the other Amazons on Themyscira, with Patty Jenkins producing.

The news was revealed by Brazilian journalist Miguel Morales, who said in a translation on Twitter “Yes, Patty Jenkins confirmed that WB is developing a movie focused on the Amazon! She will not direct, but will work on executive production! No further details.”

A Themyscira spin-off would not be the first WB would develop. The studio is currently developing The Trench, a spin-off to James Wan’s Aquaman that will focus on the terrifying sea creatures seen in the film. Wan will produce alongside his Aquaman producer Peter Safran with Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald writing the screenplay. Earlier this year, Safran stated he believed The Trench will be released before Aquaman 2, which is currently scheduled for a December 16, 2022 release date.
