Rosario Dawson cast in HBO Max’s DMZ from Ava DuVernay

January 22, 2020 by Ricky Church

Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap) has been cast in HBO Max’s pilot for DMZ, an adaptation of the Vertigo comic book with Ava Duvernay (When They See Us) directing.

Created by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli, DMZ is set in a future where Manhattan Island is a no-man’s land in a brutal civil war.

Dawson will play Alma, “a fierce medic who saves lives while desperately searching for her lost son. As she contends with the gangs, militias, demagogues and warlords who now control the lawless island, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone there has lost: hope.”

Westworld‘s Roberto Patino is adapting the comic for HBO Max and will serve as the showrunner while DuVernay will direct and executive produce alongside him.

In the near future, America is embroiled in a bitter civil war, leaving Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world. Leaping off the pages of the popular DC comic, Patino’s DMZ chronicles the harrowing journey of a fierce female medic who saves lives while desperately searching for her lost son. But as she contends with the gangs, militias, demagogues and warlords that control this lawless no man’s land, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone here has lost… hope.
