1917 leads the winners of BAFTA’s 2020 British Academy Film Awards

Hollywood descended upon London this evening as BAFTA hosted the 2020 EE British Academy Film Awards, with Sam Mendes’ World War I epic 1917 enjoying a fantastic night with seven awards in total including Best Film.

Along with the top honour, 1917 was also awarded Outstanding British Film, Director (Mendes), Cinematography (Roger Deakins), Production Design, Sound and Special Visual Effects. Todd Phillips Joker won three awards – Leading Actor (Joaquin Phoenix), Casting and Original Score – with Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite receiving Outstanding Film Not in the English Language and Original Screenplay.

On the acting front, Joaquin Phoenix was joined by Renee Zellweger (Leading Actress for Judy), Brad Pitt (Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Laura Dern (Supporting Actress for Marriage Story), while the EE Rising Star Award went to Micheal Ward (Blue Story).
