James Gunn says The Suicide Squad won’t be in the same vein as Guardians of the Galaxy films

February 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has assured both sets of fans that even though he is directing both films, they won’t be in the same vein regarding humour and music – two staples of the Guardians films.

In a recent Instagram Q&A, Gunn responded to a fan who asked if Suicide Squad would feature humour and music similar to Guardians by stating, “No. It’s its own thing.”

It’s good to know Gunn won’t be simply recycling and rehashing the same material we have come to love from his recent Marvel projects and stamping his own unique style on the DC film.

James Gunn is currently directing a cast including the returning Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland, David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, and Sean Gunn.

Are you glad James Gunn won’t be implementing the same staples from the Guardians of the Galaxy films ? Are you looking forward to The Suicide Squad? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
