John Cena talks Jakob Toretto role in Fast & Furious 9

February 4, 2020 by Amie Cranswick

Last week we got our first look at this year’s hotly-anticipated Fast & Furious 9 (a.k.a.F9: The Fast Saga) with the release of the official trailer for the blockbuster action sequel, which revealed not only the return of Sung Kang’s Han, but also the fact that John Cena is portraying Jakob Toretto, the super-buff, highly-skilled master thief, assassin and high-performance driver brother of Vin Diesel’s Dom.

Speaking to Total Film, Cena has offered some insight into his character, revealing why Jakob is the most dangerous enemy the team has faced to date:

“Jakob is a bit of a loner, in being a bit of a loner, he has to craft all the skills that it takes. He’s skilled in performance driving, he’s skilled in combat, he’s skilled in espionage and covert tactics. You see how the Fast family operates. Each member has a distinct set of skills, and that’s why they can make the impossible, possible. Jakob possesses all those skills, which makes him an insurmountable threat.”

Along with the comments from Cena, the magazine also unveiled the following two new official images from the upcoming film:

No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past. Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, next year’s The Suicide Squad).
