Margot Robbie on what James Gunn is bringing to The Suicide Squad

With the recent release of Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), audiences were reunited with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn for the first time since 2016’s Suicide Squad. However, it won’t be long before we see the next instalment in Harley’s journey as she is next set to appear in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Robbie teased what director James Gunn will be bringing to the film regarding both Harley Quinn and the overall source material.

“I can tell you that it’s going to be incredible,” Robbie explained. “And again, it’s just interesting to see what a different filmmaker makes of Gotham and these characters and Harley, really. I’m fascinated by what James Gunn finds interesting in her compared to what [Birds of Prey director] Cathy [Yan] finds interesting, compared to what [Suicide Squad director] David [Ayer] found interesting about her. [James is] such a comic book lover, so it’s going to be rooted in the source material, which is always important to me.”

James Gunn is currently directing a cast including the returning Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland, David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, and Sean Gunn.
