Supernatural showrunner says no more episodes will be airing for a while

March 24, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Supernatural is currently airing its fifteenth and final season with 13 episodes released so far out of a total of 20. Unfortunately, fans of the long-running series are going to have to wait a while to see how Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchesters’ journey comes to an end as the last seven episodes won’t be airing for a while after production has been halted indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to showrunner Andrew Dabb, the thirteenth episode, which aired on 23rd March, will be the last episode for the time being but he reassured fans that The CW and Warner Bros. are fully committed to returning and finishing the beloved series.

“We have filmed through episode 18, however our visual effects and sound departments have closed because of the outbreak. So, right now, the episodes can’t be finished. However, [we] have some special treats coming along the way– to help us all get through this,” he continued. “And yes, we, the CW, and Warner Bros fully intend to return and finish the series. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”

While there is no time frame when production will resume, the news that the studio, cast and crew are fully intending to finish the final season will most likely come as a relief to fans of Supernatural, after concerns that they wouldn’t be able to finish the story with television projects shutting down.

Sam and Dean have spent their lives on the road, battling supernatural threats that include everything from the demon that killed their mother to the usual vampires, ghosts, shape-shifters, angels and fallen gods rampaging over the land. They’ve come out on top with the help of allies, both human and supernatural, but every victory comes at a price.
