Geoff Johns to produce HBO Max’s Green Lantern series, teaser artwork surfaces

April 30, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Back in January it was announced that a live-action Green Lantern series is in the works for WarnerMedia’s new HBO Max streaming service, and now comes word that former DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns is set to produce alongside the previously announced Arrowverse supremo Greg Berlanti.

The news has been revealed via the official website of Mad Ghost Productions, the recently formed production company owned by Johns, which includes a listing that describes the project as “the first live-action series delving into the Green Lantern universe” and also features the following promotional artwork…

During his time at DC, Johns was responsible for reintroducing Hal Jordan into the DC Universe with the Green Lantern: Rebirth miniseries and followed that up with an acclaimed run on the Green Lantern ongoing title. He has executive produced all of Warner Bros.’ DCEU movies since Batman v Superman (with writing credits on Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984) and the DC shows Titans, Batwoman and Doom Patrol, and has also created the upcoming Stargirl TV series for DC Universe and The CW.

In addition to the Green Lantern HBO Max series, Johns also remains attached to write and produce the planned DC Extended Universe movie Green Lantern Corps, and while it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything by way of an update the project remains listed as in development on the Mad Ghost website as of the time of writing.
