Transformers animated prequel movie in development at Paramount with Toy Story 4 director

April 30, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Paramount is looking to revisit one of their most profitable franchise once again. It is now confirmed the studio will team with Hasbro’s eOne for an untitled animated Transformers prequel, which will be helmed by Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley.

The seventh Transformers movie sees screenwriting partners Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari tackling the script, while Paramount Animation and eOne will develop and produce.

With an Oscar win for Toy Story 4 under his belt, Cooley locked down the directing gig. He was previously nominated for the original screenplay Oscar for 2015’s Inside Out as well. The producers are expected to be Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

Michael Bay served as the director for the first five films, which went on to generate $4 billion worldwide. His run in the franchise came to a close with the release of 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight.

Paramount went on to revamp the franchise with 2018’s prequel Bumblebee, which saw Travis Knight direct and Hailee Steinfeld star. This upcoming animated film will be the second prequel to the series, and another revamping for the long-running blockbuster franchise.
