Netflix reteaming with Mark Wahlberg for spy movie Our Man from Jersey

May 16, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from the successful launch of Spenser Confidential, Netflix is set to reunite with Mark Wahlberg for the spy movie Our Man from Jersey, with the streamer shelling out seven figures to acquire the pitch from Walhberg and his producing partner Stephen Levinson.

Plot details for Our Man from Jersey are being kept under wraps, but it will see Wahlberg taking on the role of “a blue collar 007”. Safe House writer and Designated Survivor creator David Guggenheim is on board to write the script.

Based upon Robert B. Parker’s Spenser For Hire novels, Spenser Confidential had a tough time with critics and audiences, but still proved very popular for Netflix having been viewed by 85 million accounts, which makes it the streaming service’s second most watched feature film behind the Chris Hemsworth action thriller Extraction.

Wahlberg has two films in post-production in Good Joe Bell and Infinite, and he was just about to start working on the long-gestating Uncharted video game adaptation prior to the production shutdown. He can currently be heard lending his voice to Blue Falcon in Warner’s new Scooby-Doo movie Scoob!.
