Sylvester Stallone announces new Demolition Man movie in the works

May 5, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Having revisited the Rocky and Rambo franchises over the past few years, Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he’s now turning his attention to another area of his back catalogue, with the action icon casually announcing during an Instagram Q&A that a new Demolition Man movie is in the works.

“There is [one] coming,” said Stallone when asked by a fan whether we can get a follow-up to the hit 1993 action movie. “We’re working on it right now with Warner Bros. and it’s looking fantastic, so that should come out… that’s going to happen.”

I cannot believe this, just Sly Stallone casually announcing that Demolition Man 2 is happening. Holy shit. pic.twitter.com/Dzq1qsdnDg

Demolition Man saw Stallone portraying LAPD officer John Spartan, who along with his nemesis – the psychotic criminal Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) – are sentenced to ‘Cryo-Penitentiary’. Four decades later, Phoenix escapes custody and wreaks havoc in the now-peaceful utopia of San Angeles, forcing the police to thaw Spartan who teams up with SAPD Lieutenant Lenina Huxley (Sandra Bullock) to bring Phoenix down. The film was a hit with audiences, grossing $160 million worldwide.
