Chris Evans believes Captain America return “would be risky” after Endgame

June 1, 2020 by Gary Collinson

It’s a little over a year since Marvel Studios brought the curtain down on Steve Rogers’ story in the MCU with Avengers: Endgame, and while a few unsubstantiated rumours have floated around the past twelve months about his potential return, Chris Evans has said that he believes it may be too “risky” to reprise the role of Captain America after going “out on such a high note”.

“Yes – I think it is,” said Evans on The Graham Norton Show when asked if he feels Endgame is the end of Steve’s journey. “It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it’s better left that way.”

Evans’ latest comments are similar to statements he made back in November, where he refused to categorically rule out a return but made it clear that he is very satisfied with how things played out:

“You never say never. I love the character. I don’t know. … It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either…  If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together. … It doesn’t feel, at this time, that would be a thing. … It’d be a shame to sour that.”
