Janelle Monáe horror Antebellum pulled from August release

August 1, 2020 by Liam Waddington

After originally losing its April 24th release due to the global health crisis, Antebellum, the new horror film starring Janelle Monáe, has now been pulled from its August 21st release date by Lionsgate.

While no reasoning was given for the indefinite delay, it’s safe to assume the change comes from the studio’s wavering hope that theatres will be opened up for business by late summer with an audience willing to turn up.

Lionsgate playing it safe—ANTEBELLUM moves to TBD, leaving August 21 in the dust.

Antebellum centres around the successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) who finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.

The film is directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz and features a cast that also includes Marque Richardson II, Eric Lange, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone.
