Terrifying Cosmic Horror Films Inspired by Lovecraft

April 1, 2021 by Red Stewart

Marvelous Videos delves into the dark depths of cinema for a selection of cosmic horror films inspire by H.P. Lovecraft…

Long before Alfred Hitchcock and Stephen King dominated the genre, H. P. Lovecraft was pioneering a new form of horror that would shock the world: the idea that humans weren’t all that great.

“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of the infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.”

So he wrote and so auteurs have been influenced. Many filmmakers have tried to incorporate Lovecraft’s cosmic themes into their works, and so the folks at Marvelous Videos have put together nine recommendations in Dark City, From Beyond, The Midnight Meat Train, Color Out of Space, The Void, In the Mouth of Madness, Necronomicon, The Resurrected and Dagon.
