Emma Roberts to produce and star in Tell Me Lies for Hulu

September 2, 2020 by Ricky Church

Emma Roberts (Scream Queens) has just made a first-look deal with streamer Hulu and her first order of business is to star in and produce a series adaptation of Carola Loverings’ 2018 novel Tell Me Lies.

The novel follows “the story of a young woman’s obsession with a man who’s good at being charming. When Lucy Albright arrives on the campus of her small college, away from her mother whom she’s never forgiven for an act of betrayal in her early teen years, Lucy embraces college life and all it has to offer. But everything changes when she meets Stephen DeMarco, who has a mysterious past of his own. Their addicting entanglement will have consequences they never could have imagined.”

The pilot will be written by Meaghan Oppenheimer (Queen America) with Roberts producing through her Belletrist TV company. Co-founder Karah Priess will executive produce alongside Belletrist’s Matt Matruski, who will produce, while Lovering will act as a consulting producer.

Roberts and Priess began Belletrist as a book club and will use their company to adapt novels in TV series for Hulu in their first look deal. Tell Me Lies will also be produced by Rebelle Media and Refinery29.
