Netflix’s The Witcher season 2 loses Eskel actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen

September 23, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although production has recently resumed on the second season of Netflix’s The Witcher series, it appears as the show has lost actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen, who was set to play the witcher, Eskel.

Taking to Instagram, Rasmussen released a statement revealing he will no longer portray Eskel in the second season due to scheduling conflicts as a result of the ongoing global health crisis.

“Sadly, due to the rescheduling because of Covid-19, I will not be portraying Eskel in The Witcher,” Rasmussen’s said. “It’s heartbreaking, of course, but I mostly feel happy and grateful for the days I got to spend on set earlier this year. Everyone was extremely engaged and passionate about the project and it was a truly inspiring experience.”

Given the inclusion of Eskel in the next step of Geralt and Ciri’s journey in the book series, it is most likely the streaming service will have to recast after Rasmussen has departed the role.

Who do you think should take on the role of Eskel in the second season? Are you excited for the continuation of The Witcher? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter at @flickeringmyth…

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. Other cast members include Jodhi May, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Adam Levy, MyAnna Buring, Mimi Ndiweni, Therica Wilson-Read, Emma Appleton, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, Lars Mikkelsen, Royce Pierreson, Maciej Musiał, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, and Anna Shaffe.

New cast members for season two include Kim Bodnia as Vesemir, Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen, and Mecia Simson as Francesca.
