Idris Elba to star in survival thriller Beast from Baltasar Kormakur

October 5, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Luther star Idris Elba is set to headline the survival thriller Beast, which is being directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, Adrift) for Universal Pictures.

Scripted by Ryan Engle (Rampage) from an original idea by Jaime Primak-Sullivan, Beast is said to be “in the vein of The Shallows”, but with a lion as the antagonist rather than sharks. Further plot details are being kept under wraps.

British actor Elba will next be seen in the drama Concrete Cowboy, which premiered last month at the Toronto International Film Festival, and has James Gunn’s DC supervillain team-up The Suicide Squad arriving in 2021.

He has also just signed on to reunite with his Suicide Squad co-star John Cena in the action film Heads of State, which has been set up at Amazon Prime Video.
