Joey King and McG teaming with Netflix for Uglies

October 2, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Netflix has announced that The Kissing Booth star Joey King is teaming with The Babysitter director McG for an adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s dystopian fantasy novel Uglies.

Uglies takes place “in a world in which a compulsory operation at 16 wipes out physical differences and makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty.”

As revealed by Deadline, King is a fan of the book series and brought the property to Netflix herself. As well as starring, the Emmy-nominated actress will serve as executive producer on the project.

Uglies will mark King’s fourth collaboration with Netflix after The Kissing Booth and The Kissing Booth 2, as well as a third instalment which is already shot. Director McG is also becoming a Netflix regular with his last three films – The Babysitter, Rim of the World and The Babysitter: Killer Queen – all produced and distribution by the streamer.
