Mad Max: Anya Taylor-Joy breaks silence on landing the role of Furiosa

October 15, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Anya Taylor-Joy is set to take on the role of Furiosa – which was previously portrayed by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road – for the upcoming spin-off prequel film.

Now, in an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Taylor-Joy confirmed that she has yet to meet director George Miller in person but she is excited to bringing a new take to the character rather than just copying what Theron did in Fury Road.

“The first thing that went through my head when I found out I was going to do it was,’ I am so excited to work so hard,'” Taylor-Joy said. “The level of commitment that has been shown before me, I endeavour to match that, and that makes me really excited. I fell in love with Furiosa, the way that Charlize presented her. She did such an incredible job and it was so beautiful and I can’t even think about trying to step [into her shoes]. It has to be something different because it just can’t be done.”

Originally Miller wanted to use de-ageing technology to allow Charlize Theron to play the part again but ultimately decided against doing so and instead went with the 24-year-old Taylor-Joy.

Furiosa will be directed, co-written and produced by George Miller, along with his longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell. The upcoming prequel, which will also star Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, will reportedly focus on what led Furiosa to become the war captain under the cruel leader Immortan Joe.

Are you looking forward to Furiosa? What are your thoughts on the casting of Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter @flickeringmyth…
