The Witches to receive PVOD release in the UK this month for £15.99

October 14, 2020 by Gary Collinson

With Robert Zemeckis’ The Witches skipping its theatrical release to go directly to HBO Max in the United States, Warner Bros. has announced that UK fans will also be able to catch the Roald Dahl adaptation ahead of Halloween via Premium Video on Demand.

The film – which stars Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer and Stanley – will be made available in the UK from October 26th with a 48-hour rental from participating digital retailers.

As yet, there is no word on how much this rental will cost UK viewers, but we’ve reached out to Warner Bros. for clarification.

UPDATE: We’ve now confirmed the cost of the rental to be £15.99.

Reimagining the beloved Roald Dahl story for a modern audience, Robert Zemeckis’s visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis.  As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort.  Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow witches from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.

The Witches features a cast that includes Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones), Chris Rock (Grown Ups), Octavia Spencer (Ma), Kristin Chenoweth (Glee) and newcomers Jahzir Kadeem Bruno and Codie-Lei Eastick.
