The Batman to continue production despite latest UK lockdown

November 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the UK will be entering a second lockdown as a result of the ongoing global health crisis, however, it seems like film and television production will continue to go ahead.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden took to Twitter t0 encourage everyone to work from home but noted, “where this is not possible, travel to a place of work will be permitted – e.g. this includes (but not exhaustive) elite sport played behind closed doors, film & tv production, telecoms workers.” This latest update will include Matt Reeves’ The Batman which is currently filming in Liverpool.

While The Batman has seemingly evaded a halt in production this time, the film has already been hit with a number of delays this year including having its release date pushed back to 2022 and most recently, lead actor Robert Pattinson reportedly had to quarantine for two weeks after testing positive.

The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock, Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk) as Officer Stanley Merkel and Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as Bella Real.
