Pedro Pascal describes his biggest challenge in The Mandalorian season 2

December 2, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Pedro Pascal has revealed the biggest challenge he faces as an actor in The Mandalorian season two.

Season two of The Mandalorian is now in full swing with just a few episodes left to go. The show is one of the more unique ones right now as we rarely see the face of the main character Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal.

A lot of Pascal’s work involves voice work and providing a physical presence behind all his armour. Pascal was on set a lot more in this second season and he has told Entertainment Weekly what his biggest challenge has been:

“The biggest challenge in playing Mando in season 2 is still the obvious, in that, how to in subtle ways, be it through vocal intonation or physical stillness/posture, large movements, small movements, to dramatically convey a scene and keep the character compelling because he is economical anyway, much less being armored from the tips of his toes to the top of his head. It is a physical challenge that is met creatively in terms of how technically you can achieve that. It will always be particularly unique in that regard.

“I’m not even sure if I would be able to do it if it weren’t for the amount of direct experience that I’ve had with being on stage to understand how to posture yourself, how to physically frame yourself into something and to tell a story with a gesture, with a stance, or with very, very specific vocal intonation.”

The show certainly isn’t held back in any way by the main character being hidden by a mask and a lot of the credit has to go to Pascal. Through his vocal performance and the work he does physically, we have still become very attached to Din.

The Mandalorian season two sees the returning Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) joined by the likes of Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator), Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.

The Mandalorian season two airs on Fridays on Disney+.
