Peter Dinklage to star as Toxic Avenger in Legendary’s reboot

December 1, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The man once known for drinking wine and knowing things is continuing to know how to make fun movie choices. Deadline is reporting that Peter Dinklage will tackle the role of Toxic Avenger, the cult-classic superhero from the Troma films.

Yes, you are reading that correctly. Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones fame will play Toxie, the super-human mutant, out to get revenge on the bullies and bad people in his town. Macon Blair will helm this Toxic Avenger reboot for Legendary Entertainment and sees Lloyd Kaufman return as the producer.

The Toxic Avenger was a 1984 low-budget action-comedy from Troma Entertainment, a production company for their outlandish independent films, like Class of Nuke ‘Em High and Tromeo and Juliet. 1984’s The Toxic Avenger found a home with niche film fans and went on to spawn three film sequels, a stage musical production, a video game, and a children’s TV cartoon. The film was looked at as a parody of superhero films at the time and had a focus on environmental themes.

Deadline reports that Dinklage will star as the titular hero in what’s described as a “contemporary reimagining” of the original film. A struggling everyman falls into a vat of toxic waste, forever transforming him into a mutant freak in the original. This takes our hero from a once shunned outcast to an underdog hero—no word on if this new version will follow that origin story.
