Ethan Hawke reuniting with Sinister director Scott Derrickson on Blumhouse’s The Black Phone

January 31, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Blumhouse has announced that Ethan Hawke is set to reunite with Sinister director Scott Derrickson on The Black Phone, the upcoming adaptation of the horror short story by Joe Hill.

As per THR, The Black Phone follows a “kidnapped kid who finds himself in a soundproof basement surrounded by the remains of other victims. When night falls, the antique — and disconnected — telephone in the room begins to ring with the calls from the dead.”

Hawke is set to portray the kidnapper in the film, which also has Mason Thames (For All Mankind), Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4) and Jeremy Davies (Saving Private Ryan) on board.

In addition to Sinister, Hawke has previously worked with Blumhouse on The Purge, along with the acclaimed Showtime TV series The Good Lord Bird. He will next be seen alongside Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard in Robert Eggers’ The Northman as well as Abel Ferrara’s upcoming film Zeros and Ones.
