Tom Holland broke his computer when he read he would be the next Spider-Man

January 22, 2021 by Samuel Brace

Tom Holland has revealed that he broke his computer the moment he found out he was playing the next Spider-Man for Marvel.

These days, Tom Holland is well known for being the actor behind the MCU’s Peter Parker, having played the part ever since Captain America: Civil War in 2016, he’s had years to grow accustomed to one of cinema’s most iconic parts.

But when Holland found out that he was getting the part, he couldn’t have been more excited. Speaking to Daniel Kaluuya for Variety, Holland recalled how he found out that he got the part when it was announced online:

“I remember going on my phone and checking Instagram, and Marvel had posted a picture of Spider-Man, of the cartoon. And by this point, I kind of had assumed I hadn’t got it, because no one had called me.

“I got my computer, and my dog was sitting next to me. I type in ‘Marvel.’ I’ve still got the article saved on my computer. It said, ‘We would like to introduce our new Spider-Man, Tom Holland.’ I broke my computer, because I flipped it up in the air. It fell off my bed; my dog went nuts. I ran downstairs. I was telling my family, ‘I got the part! I got the part!’ And obviously, that was right about the time when Sony had got hacked, so my brother, Harry, who’s quite tech savvy, was like, ‘No. There’s no way that’s real. They would have called you. They’ve been hacked.’ And then the studio called me and gave me the news. It was so bizarre how it happened.”

It’s certainly an odd way to find out you got the part. You would think Marvel would have contacted him first. However it happened, Holland seems to be here to stay as Spider-Man all these years later, with yet another movie already on the way.

The Untitled Spider-Man Sequel is slated for release on December 17th 2021 and sees Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home) directing Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Zendaya (MJ), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Jamie Foxx (Electro) and Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus).
