HBO Max’s Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai announces voice cast and early season 2 renewal

February 17, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

It appears someone over at HBO Max has spilt water on the box marked Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, because news is popping faster than it takes a Gremlin to cook in the microwave. Not only have they announced the voice cast for the forthcoming animated show, but the prequel-series has also been given an early second season renewal. It’s a good day to be Gizmo.

According to Variety’s exclusive, filling out the voice cast will be Good Boys‘ Isaac Wang,  The Mandalorian‘s Ming-Na Wen, Jurassic Park‘s BD Wong,  Big Trouble in Little China‘s James Hong, and taking on duties as the villain who will stop at nothing to get his hands on the Mogwai will be The Americans‘ Matthew Rhys.

If that wasn’t enough Gremliny goodness on its own, Deadline have also revealed that the in-production Amblin Television show has already been given the green light for a second season.

The 10-episode series will see Gremlins and Gremlins 2 director Joe Dante act as a consultant as “We travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called ‘Gizmo.’ Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are also pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”

Are you looking forward to lifting the lid on the origin of Gremlins, or would you rather they were making a sequel to the Steven Spielberg produced movies? Let us know what you think of this news by visiting our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
