Olivia Wilde praises Harry Styles for his approach to Don’t Worry Darling

February 17, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

It has been quite the production on Olivia Wilde’s sophomore film as a director, Don’t Worry Darling, what with having to shoot during the current pandemic, and firing Shia LaBeouf due to her “zero asshole policy”, but now that filming has wrapped on the 1950s set phycological drama, she has followed up praise for Florence Pugh by singling out Harry Styles for his approach to the female-led film.

In an Instagram post which may-or-may-not feature the first official picture of Styles’ character, Jack, the Booksmart director lauded him for the way he relished “the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold center stage as our Alice”, and how “he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity”.

Perhaps more significant was her comment about the film industry as whole, stating that “most male actors don’t want to play supporting roles in female-led films. The industry has raised them to believe it lessens their power (i.e financial value) to accept these roles, which is one of the reasons it’s so hard to get financing for movies focusing on female stories. No joke, it is harrrrrd to find actors who recognize why it might be worth it to allow for a woman to hold the spotlight”

Little is know about the plot of Don’t Worry Darling, aside from the fact that Florence Pugh will take the lead role in an ensemble featuring Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Nick Kroll, Gemma Chan, Kiki Layne, Asif Ali, and Olivia Wilde. Pugh will play a 1950s housewife who uncovers a disturbing truth about her seemingly perfect life.

Don’t Worry Darling is yet to receive an official release date, but rumours have it pegged for sometime in 2021.
