The Lost Crusade: The Truth About Arnold Schwarzenegger and Paul Verhoeven’s Abandoned Epic

February 1, 2021 by Red Stewart

Marvelous Videos explores the story behind the abandoned historical action epic Crusade…

We have all heard or advocated for something that has ultimately never gotten produced. Zack Snyder’s Justice League aside, the reality is such cases of fan advocacy leading to actual development of a long-awaited project are few and far between. No matter how much we may want another season of Firefly or the final entry to Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy trilogy (or a concluding series for The Big O….), there is a good chance we may never get it.

Know that you are not alone. Film enthusiasts have been feeling this for decades, with one of the more notable unmade movies being Crusade. While not its official name, this was a proposed collaboration between legendary director Paul Verhoeven (RoboCop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers) and Arnold Schwarzenegger that would have centered around the Crusades.

Given the success of Total Recall, pre-production began in 1993 but then mysteriously ended. What was its cause? What could we have gotten? Well, the folks at Marvelous Videoshave the answer; check out their video here…
