Evil Dead Rise is aiming to start filming this year in New Zealand, says Bruce Campbell

March 9, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With a new Evil Dead movie on the way, titled Evil Dead Rise, producer Bruce Campbell has revealed when and where the next film instalment is set to begin filming – which will be directed by The Hole in the Ground’s Lee Cronin.

“Planning to shoot the next Evil Dead movie in New Zealand later this year,” Campbell shared with Knox News. “[It’s] set in a modern-day urban setting. It’s out of the woods.”

Although Campbell has previously confirmed that Evil Dead Rise will feature a female heroine – like Evil Dead 2013 – in a modern-day urban setting as the franchise is moving away from the cabin in the woods theme, we also know the Ashley “Ash” J. Williams actor won’t be making an appearance as he has already publicly revealed that he has retired from the role following the cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead. It is also presumed that it won’t have any ties to Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead either – although that is yet to be confirmed.
