Florence Pugh to star in Sebastián Lelio’s The Wonder

April 29, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

With Black Widow finally released from its pandemic holding cell this July, and production wrapped on Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling, Florence Pugh already has some impressive projects in the can. Well she isn’t hanging about when it comes to adding more to her IMDb page, because Deadline are reporting that she has signed on to star in Sebastián Lelio’s The Wonder.

Pugh has recently been snaffling up quite a few roles, having signed on as the lead in Universal’s The Maid, Zach Braff’s Good Person, and Apple TV+’s killer robot sci-fi Dolly. Now she’ll play an English Nurse for A Fantastic Woman‘s Sebastián Lelio, which will start shooting this August in Ireland.

An adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s novel, The Wonder is set in the Irish Midlands, 1859 and follows an English nurse, Lib Wright (Pugh), who is summoned to a tiny village to observe what some are claiming as a medical anomaly or a miracle – a girl said to have survived without food for months. Tourists have flocked to the cabin of eleven-year-old and a journalist has come down to cover the sensation. The Wonder is a tale of two strangers who transform each other’s lives, a psychological thriller, and a story of love pitted against evil.

A time may come when Florence Pugh has a film out every week, so let us know which one you’re most excited about by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
