Spider-Man: The Animated Series’ Christopher Daniel Barnes rumoured to feature in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2

April 9, 2021 by EJ Moreno

For many 90s kids, Spider-Man: The Animated Series was a defining moment in their childhood. Many will say this series stands out as a favorite, from its fantastic line-up of characters to the voice actor behind Peter Parker. Now, it looks like fans may be able to revisit this world one more time, with Christopher Daniel Barnes even in talks to return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

That Hashtag Show reports that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 will feature even more versions of the iconic web-slinger, and – in what they note is not a “major appearance” – Barnes will reprise his Spider-Man role, with his version of the character helping out in the film’s finale. The site also notes that “he will appear in a style that incorporates his look from the cartoon. It’ll be cleaned up and a mashup of the 90’s cartoon style with the distinct visual tone of Into The Spider-Verse.”

Last year, Christopher Daniel Barnes spoke about possibly being included in Into The Spider-Verse 2 and called it an honour even to be considered: “That would be great. I’ve reprised the role several times in video games… so that would be great. If I could do that again, I’d be honored. I’m getting kind of old to do it, but I’d be happy to play an older Spider-Man.”

Could this be an Avengers: Endgame-style finale with every version of Peter Parker coming together to fight a big bad in an epic battle? Only time will tell, but we’ll find out when the film is released on October 7th, 2022.
